Itinerary
12:00 hrs.
Depart for Samut Songkhram.
Leave Bangkok and head southwest to Samut Songkhram, a charming coastal province located at the mouth of the Mae Klong River. Known for its fertile land, abundant fruit orchards, and seafood markets, the province offers a refreshing escape into rural Thai life — just 74 kilometers from the capital.
13:30 hrs.
Visit the scenic Salt Fields along the highway, Thailand’s largest brine salt production area — a striking landscape of shimmering salt pans and traditional salt huts.
14:00 hrs.
Visit Talad Rom Hoop or or Maeklong Railway Market, a unique market that is held on the rail tracks. Experience the hustle and bustle of the market as vendors quickly pack up their goods and clear the tracks for the train’s arrival. Watch as the train passes by and the market swiftly returns to normal, showcasing the locals’ nonchalant attitude towards this daily occurrence.
[Train arrival time: 11:00 / 14:30 / 17:30]
15:00 hrs.
Take a 1 hour comfortable long-tail motor boat trip along the Mae Klong river and canals. You will be treated to a spectacular and colorful scenery of Thai life along the river banks. The first stop on this pleasant journey was Wat Bang Kung. This is a historically important location because of a battle between King Taksin's forces and the invading Burmese. It is also famous for being featured in the Unseen Thailand guidebooks. In the temple grounds there is a small chapel that is completely enclosed within the roots of a banyan tree. A short distance away we stopped at another temple. This one was called Wat Bangkae Noi. In the main chapel your can found quite a breathtaking view. The walls and ceiling had some amazing teakwood carvings. These depicted the life and teachings of the Lord Buddha. After this we headed back to our starting point at the Amphawan Floating Market.
16:00 hrs.
Free time at Amphawa Floating Market. Visitors can enjoy a cosy atmosphere and music broadcast by the community members, explore the market and local food. This is an afternoon floating market on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, during 12:00 - 20:00 p.m., the Amphawa Canal is occupied by vendors who pack their boats with food and drinks, such as fried sea mussel, noodles, coffee, sweets, etc.
