Highlight Lopburi Monkey Temple Phra Narai Ratchaniwet Reclining Buddha Ancient Palace Wat Mahathat Wat Chaiwatthanaram
Notice: In line with recent conservation efforts by the Thai government, a majority of the monkeys in Lopburi have been relocated to natural forest habitats or placed under care in controlled sanctuary areas. As a result, the number of monkeys freely roaming the historical sites has significantly declined.
This development has brought many positive outcomes—natural food sources are now sufficient, and the monkeys display far less aggressive behavior compared to the past.
Please be advised that sightings of monkeys at tourist landmarks can no longer be guaranteed, as their presence varies from day to day.
If you would like a more up-close experience, we are happy to include a visit to a nearby monkey care center as part of your tour upon request.
Lopburi + Ayutthaya
Itinerary
07:00 hrs.
Begin your day with an early departure from Bangkok, embarking on a journey to explore the historical richness of Lopburi and Ayutthaya. (2-2.5 hours)
09:00 hrs.
Phra Prang Sam Yod (Lopburi Monkey Temple) Your first stop is the iconic Lopburi Monkey Temple, Phra Prang Sam Yod, renowned for its three ancient Khmer-style spires and its lively monkey residents. This unique site blends history and wildlife, offering a fascinating glimpse into Thailand’s past — and perhaps a few cheeky monkey encounters.
Please note: The monkeys are wild and free-roaming, so sightings are subject to weather conditions. On particularly hot days, they may retreat into the shade or stay indoors, making them harder to spot. However, if the sun isn’t too intense, you’re likely to see them playing and interacting around the temple grounds.
Phra Narai Ratchaniwet
Next, visit the elegant Phra Narai Ratchaniwet, also known as the Narai Palace. This historical site in Lopburi was the royal palace of King Narai the Great, showcasing exquisite architecture and a glimpse into Thailand’s illustrious past.
12:00 hrs.
After exploring Lopburi, make your way back to Ayutthaya. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, savoring traditional Thai cuisine to recharge for the afternoon’s adventures.
13:00 hrs.
Wat Lokayasutharam
Visit to Wat Lokkayasutha, known for its impressive reclining Buddha statue. The serene atmosphere and historical significance of the site provide a peaceful start to your Ayutthaya experience.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet
Visit Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the most important temple within the Royal Palace compound and the original from which the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok was copied. Three outstanding Ceylonese style pagodas were built in the 15th century to enshrine the ashes of three Ayutthayan kings.
Wat Mahathat Next, visit Wat Mahathat, famous for the Buddha head entwined in tree roots. This iconic image symbolizes Ayutthaya’s spiritual heritage and resilience, making it a must-visit for an authentic feel of the ancient city’s ambiance.
Wat Chaiwatthanaram Across the Rivers to the south of the Island to visit Wat Chaiwatthanaram, one of Ayutthaya’s most beautiful temples, located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Its stunning architecture, inspired by Angkor Wat, provides a perfect end to your day of exploration.
16:00 hrs.
Leave Ayutthaya and pass through green paddy fields, villages, and temples on the way back to Bangkok. (1.5-2 hour)
