Khao Kheow is a clever zoo. It’s not the sort of place where the animals’ prowl up and down looking bored out of their skulls. Here you can get as close to the animals as you’d probably want to. The animals’ homes are cleverly woven into the stunning natural surroundings, so at times it’s more like you’re on safari. There are elephants, penguins, hippos and big cats, everything you’d want from a trip to the zoo. Establish in 1978, Khao Kheow was a part of the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand. It is now one of the biggest open zoos in Thailand, with more than 200 different kinds of animal.

Khao Kheow Zoo

- Visit Khao Kheow Open Zoo — one of Thailand’s most engaging and family-friendly wildlife parks.
Set in a vast green landscape, this open-concept zoo is home to over 8,000 animals and more than 300 species, ranging from familiar favorites to rare and exotic wildlife. A highlight for many visitors is meeting the adorable “Moo Deng” (bouncy pig) — still charming and lovable even after growing up!
What makes Khao Kheow truly special is how interactive the experience is. Unlike many other zoos, children here can get much closer to the animals — feeding giraffes, watching elephants up close, and enjoying natural-style habitats that feel more like a wildlife sanctuary than a traditional zoo.
