overview The largest national park in southern Thailand, Khao Sok National Park is a lush and diverse example of tropical rainforest, Limestone Mountains, lakes and rivers and home to many rare and exotic animals and plant life unique to Southeast Asia. Khao Sok National Park has long been associated with Baan Sok, previously known as BaanSop, in Klong Solk Subdistrict, Panom District,Surat Thani, The name Sop (literally "corpse" in Thai) was replaced with Sok by Than Khan Keereerat Nikom, District Offcer of Keereerat Nikom District,and the name Sok has been used since.The orginal name Sop was derived from a mountain called Pantart Mount which looked liked like a lying dead giant to the villagers.Khao Sok National Park spans across Panom District and baanTakoon District of Surat Thani. It is mostly tropical rain forest with alernating low and tall mountains.There are not many plains in Khao Sok National Park.Tothe north near Prasaeng canal is a large water reservoir which resulted from the construction of Ratchapra (Chiew Larn) Dam.Khao Sok National Park measures approximately 461,712.5 rai or 738.74 square kilometers.
